From Chaotic to Tidy: Our RV Adventure with Louie
Welcome to The Tidy RV: Our Story of How We Went from Chaotic to Tidy in Our RV Travels.
We’ve been hitting the road for a long time as RV travelers. Over the past 25 years, we’ve owned five different rigs, two of which we still call our own. We’ve spent countless weekends traveling up and down the East Coast, from music festivals to beach getaways. But it wasn’t always as smooth as we’d hoped.
As we traveled more, we started to accumulate more gear, more “just-in-case” items—things we thought we needed but didn’t always have room for. The more we acquired, the harder it was to keep everything organized and functional. Before we knew it, we were hauling around a lot of things we simply didn’t need. It became clear that our once-tidy RV was becoming more of a cluttered storage unit with wheels.
In the summer of 2024, it all came to a head. Both of us were so fed up, we actually considered tossing it all—packing up the RV, quitting RV travel, and pitching everything in a dumpster. It felt like too much. The stuff, sure, but it was also that things weren’t tidy. There wasn’t a system, a place, or a routine to keep things in order. Extreme? Maybe. But it was the reality we faced when disorder and chaos took over.
Then, we welcomed a new member into our lives—Louie. A little crumb-sniffing dog. Louie’s arrival was a big change for us, making us a trio instead of a duo, and forcing us to rethink how we organized our space and routines. We quickly realized that our RV needed to function in a new way, accommodating not just the two of us but our new four-legged co-pilot as well.
Through trial and error, and plenty of tweaks along the way, we found the right routines, systems, and gear that allowed us to keep everything organized and accessible while still making the most of our small space. This journey of figuring it all out inspired the creation of The Tidy RV™. What started as a necessity to keep our RV life manageable with Louie now became a passion to share with others. We realized that with the right setup, RV travel could be simpler, more efficient, and—most importantly—tidy.
